I stayed hot last night hitting on Akron +20.5, moving to 3-1 overall on spreads/totals for this college football season and an illustrious 1-0 in the MAC. As I mentioned yesterday, college football isn’t what I bet for the most part but I figure why not try to keep the hot streak going on a slow Wednesday! Out of the two games, I landed on the Northern Illinois Huskies going on the road to take on Kent State as 3.5 point underdogs. Feel free to fade this one with the hot streak I’m on the past two days and my general lack of success in the past in college football, but I got a good feeling about tonight.
Northern Illinois +3.5 over Kent State
So at first glance this line looks a bit strange with NIU being 6-2 and Kent State at 4-4, but 3 out of Kent State’s 4 losses came to power 5 schools (31 to Texas A&M, 23 to Iowa, 21 to Maryland). However, they also fell to Western Michigan by 33, who is ranked 72nd via Jeff Sagarin’s College Football Ratings, while Kent State barely handling Ohio (129th) and Bowling Green (144th) in conference play.
Kent State (96th) actually comes in ranked slightly lower than NIU (90th), and the Huskies have put together a decent season so far. They went 2-2 in non-conference play, which included a loss against Michigan and a win against Georgia Tech. They’ve since went undefeated in four conference play games, with their only mutual opponent being Bowling Green, who NIU beat by 8 and Kent State beat by 7. Based off what we’ve seen so far this season, I’ll take the road underdogs and the field goal and roll with Northern Illinois tonight.
