Betting MLB is a pain so let’s take a look at the one football game we have tonight: Appalachian State @ Louisiana-Lafayette on ESPN2.
Appalachian State -4.5
When it comes to these types of matchups and it’s tough to get a feel of the level of competition these teams have been facing is when I like to dive into the analytics and trust the nerds, in this case Jeff Sagarin’s college football ratings. He has App State as the 40th best team in the country, ranking right around LSU and UCLA. Louisiana-Lafayette on the other hand, comes in at 76th on the rankings.
Both teams are 4-1 with their one loss coming against a Power 5 school, with Appalachian State falling 25-23 to Miami (57th) while ULL lost to Texas (13th) 38-18. As far as their wins go, App State have won their games by 14, 34, 1, and 29, while ULL has had a few more close calls, winning by 3, 35, 8, and 2.
The level of competition has also been tougher for App States, with their 4 opponents they beat averaging a 116 rating, while ULL’s opponents average a 133 rating. Based off what we’ve seen so far this season, it’s safe to say App State is the much better overall team even though the records are identical, so I like them to win by at least a touchdown tonight and easily cover the spread.
