A couple things out of the gate: First, I rarely bet college football and this is my first official play of the season. Second, I am on a small teaser hot streak winning on Monday night (DAL and the over) as well as last night (Jaguars and the over) so either I’m staying hot with another tonight or I’m due for a loss since teasers can’t keep working out this well, right? You can make the call. But anyways, let’s get to it and see what happens tonight in this matchup of 4-0 teams.
Maryland +10.5 vs. Iowa, Under 54.5 (7 point teaser -130) 1.3u to win 1u
I’m expecting a classic (ugly) Big 10 game tonight between these two teams, starting off with the unit I have the most faith in, Iowa’s defense. The under has hit in every single one of their games this season, mainly due to their defense holding opponents to 6, 17, 7, and 14 over the first four weeks. On Maryland’s side, the only time the over hit was in their 62-0 win over Howard, which I obviously put little stock in. With the extra 7 points given, I feel much safer taking the under than the over in this matchup and don’t expect it to be much of a sweat. Just no overtime please.
As far as the game itself goes, “Iowa’s quality” early wins against Indiana and Iowa State don’t seem quite as strong as they did at the time. They also squeaked out a win against Colorado State 24-14 last week, who they were 23.5 point favorites against. They’ve been carried mostly by their defense and if you compare Maryland and Iowa’s only common opponent so far (Kent State), Iowa beat them 30-7 in Week 3 while Maryland beat 37-16 them in Week 4.
With Maryland having a little more explosiveness on offense with how QB Taulia Tagovailoa has been playing so far this season, I think they have a legit shot to win this game outright as they already won at home as underdogs Week 1 against West Virginia. Give me the double digit points on the Terrapins and the under and hope for a stress free night.
