CLE -1.5 over DET, Cubs ML over PIT (+210)
The Tigers and Pirates, both predicted to finish at the bottom of their divisions, pulled of victories on opening day Thursday respectively against the Indians and Cubs.
The Indians will be facing off against Julio Teheran, who had an ERA of 10.05 last season in 10 games. On the mound for the stacked Indians pitching staff is Zach Plesac, who is coming off an impressive shortened 2020 season where he went 4-2 with a 2.28 ERA.
With this pitching matchup and these two teams, it’s tough to see a universe where the Tigers are able to limit the Indians offense again and generate enough offense of their own to keep it close. I predict an offensive explosion from the Indians and a solid outing for Plesac to hit the first leg.
The Pirates very well may be the worst team in the entire league this season. They have the pleasure of facing off against Jake Arrieta, who is chomping at the bit this season to prove he’s the pitcher we saw in years past and not the last two seasons.
The Cubs are at home, still have the better starting pitcher, and certainly the better overall lineup. I’ll bank on the Cubs to pull this one out rather than counting on the lowly Pirates to start 2-0.
As a reminder, I always put 1 unit on the parlay and 2 units on each bet individually. Follow along here.
